Top 10 Really, Really Bad Sci-Fi Films

by Thai on June 14, 2009

I love Sci-Fi movies like anybody. To be quite honest, I think most of them are really awful. I know there are terrible ones like Battlefield Earth but I didn’t watch it because it’s pretty obvious that it’s mediocore. A good Sci-Fi flick should not confuse me with techno jibber jabber or a convoluted story. A thoughtful Sci-Fi will usually ride you like a reverse cowgirl. The new Star Trek movie does just that.

10. Blade Runner

Yea, I know this is such a cult classic but it’s a bit on the boring side. Granted the visuals are spectacular, the story was a thinking man’s movie. I just didn’t get it.

9. Tron

A dude gets pulled into a video game world. You can check something like that out at game cafe. Once again, the visuals outshine with a crippled storyline. It is the 80s afterall.

8. Ghost in the Shell

Once again, visuals are breath taking but the story just didn’t drive it. Anime tends to suffer in the cohesive storyline department.

7. Terminator 3

Arnold came out of retirement and got roided up to make this masterpiece. Please stop.

6. The Fifth Element

This movie was terrible on so many levels. I wanted to like it but I can’t seem to erase Chris Tucker in a dress out of my mind.

5. Signs

Now this is the thinking man’s movie. We’re invaded by Aliens and apparantly water was there weakness. Swing away George, Swing away.

4. Aliens 3

The first and second one were considered Sci-fi classics. The 3rd one was just plain awful. It was suppose to be a mashup of the action scenes from the first and the tones from the second. Hopefully, they don’t try to introduce Predators into the storyline.

3. Resident Evil

Translating to movie form shouldn’t be that hard because everything’s done for you. Just don’t screw up the character and story development.

2. AI

The visuals were grand and that’s it. The story is as interesting as watching paint dry.

1. THX 1138

Don’t ask me why would anyone watch student work. I remember watching this movie years before the DVD release and I was underwelmed by it. People next to me were so engaged but I just couldn’t find myself liking any aspect of it. It felt so pretentious. Come on, it didn’t go anywhere and make any sense whatsoever. Boorrringggggg.
